Could you please let us know what kind of application is that?

I have some JSP experience. My understanding the tranditional complicated application need high performance like oltp or batch processing are all developed by C, C++ or cobol. J2EE can help providing simple services like retriving data from the database which requested from front end.
Could you please give us an example that Java dealing with a complicated data processing with high performance requrement. BTW, what's the design pattern before the Java coding?
I am not arguing. I am worry about if my knowedge is out of date. Thanks.

目前我就在编写专用/私有版本的数据连结中间件，为了让我们的Java程序可以连结传统系统。用的语言是C++。我对Java的感觉是：是个不错的partner 语言。是用来配合和扩充传统语言，做作外壳儿，和比较花哨的东西挺好。 -torontoguy(好好学习天天向上); 2002-10-3 {49} (#779148@0)
但是核心部分还是 C++, COBOL, PL/I, RPG比较合适。

知道JBOSS吗? 全JAVA写的APP SERVER. IT IS FREE! 别以为只有WEBSPHERE才可以做项目.

就因为我一直在用java，所以才对它有这样那样的疑问。确实有几千万的项目用java，如果我做这些工程项目我一样会选择那些java之类的东西：软硬件低进高出，工程软件项目开发周期短，系统维护相对简单等等。。。这些当然都是需要考虑的问题，谁会在乎工程结束以后的事情。如果你确实在编程序，你就发个mail说说吧。不争论这个问题了，事实就是事实。另外：用vb也可以编出很好的service来，问题是没人这么做。

I have done some millions of dollars projects. I know when the high tech bubble was there how easily the company burn the money.
I agree application server is not expensive in the big projects. Tomcat is free. Iplanet is free with solaris. Oracle9i AS is cheap. Even IBM and Bea System have lowered their price. I have implemented Java applications on most of them.

JBOSS is an open source application server. It was awarded the best application server by JavaWorld magzine early this year. Very well designed. -ray236(ray); 2002-10-1 {210} (#776866@0)
The key of success of your project is YOUR DESIGN, which app server you choose is not that important here, neither the price tag. Those big guys are chosen is most of time political reason not technical merit.

IMO, WebSphere is not the best, conversely, it's almost the worst. A good comment on it is "Don't use WebSphere if you are not big blue". -handler(憨豆乐不起来了); 2002-10-1 (#776891@0)
