XP de-activation --- PlEASE HELP, URGENT

I used a license of Windows XP and activate it. Originally intend for temperory usage. But now when I want to de-activate it, I found it is impossible.

I did not aware the company's administrator when I use it, because I thought I will un-install it. But now I have a big trouble. It is not matter of money, but that I did not say anything to him ahead of time.

When the license is used up, (only 1 left), he will notice that 1 is missing. So I would rather tell him before he notice that. Then the big boss will know that.

After search the newgroups, I found that only after you install a new machine, when online activation fials (no more license), then you can call MS to ask to remove a license from one machine and use it on another one.

Any one could help me to "return" this license back?

I think it's for single machine, re-install 4 times with one copy of XP. I found out from newgroup that, if you change machine, you have to call MS to activate it on another machine. (the old one must be removed). -mayer(难得糊涂); 2002-6-24 (#596579@0)

现在可能最最热门的话题就是windowsxp了，当然，微软这次用来一统win9x和winnt的
产品，凭借着它的稳定的内核、漂亮的界面、丰富的驱动程序和附加的各种方便操作的
程序一出来就征服了大家。现在就我所知，解答一些大家争论已久的问题。所有的信息
来原均来自微软的官方主页。

一、WINDOWSXP的版本号
windows xp的正式版本号应该 5.1, buld 2600.

所谓5.1,因为windows 2000的版本号是5.0,而windows nt的最终版本号是
4.0,windowsxp是延续这一版本号的定义下来的。

二、WINDOWS XP到底有多少种版本？

从用户的角度来分，windowsxp分为Professional和HOME两个版本

从销售对象来分，windowsxp分为：
Retail 版，也就是所谓的零售版
Select版，对于一次采购大量License的团体用户
MSDN版，对于订购了MSDN的用户使用的版本
OEM版，安装在原装机上的版本
Eval版，评估版，有120天的timebomb.
从语种上分，包括简体中文在内一共有34种语言的版本。
三、怎么知道我手中的版本是否是哪一种版本？
找到xp根目录下的Setup.exe，按鼠标右键，选择属性，看版本信息，如果是2600的
话，就是最终版，而不是beta测试版。

方法一：
打开i386\eula.txt看最后一行：
EULAID:WX.4_PRO_RTL_CN
其中
WX：代表windowsxp

Pro：代表是professional，相应的还有：
HOM = Home Edition
P64 = Professional 64-Bit Edition
MUI = Multilingual User Interface
SYM = Symbols
OPK = OEM Pre-Install Kit

RTL：代表类型
RTL=retail license
类似的还有：
OEM = OEM license
OCV = OEM Upgrade Version license
OSB = OEM System Builder license (for German media only)
EVL = Evaluation license
NFR = Not For Resale license

最后一个CN代表是语种

方法二：
打开i386\setupp.ini文件
Pid =55034000
如果是未经修改的，最后的3位数字只能有三种可能： 270,000和OEM，其中270代表是
select版。

三、关于激活的问题
这个可能是大家最为关心的问题了，这次微软为了防止盗版，也就是微软所谓的casual
copy，在新的全线产品系列中均使用了激活这一技术（Microsoft Product
Activation）。（详见：
http://www.microsoft.com/piracy/basics/xp_activation.asp ）

其中的原理简单的来说就和某些shareware一样，你安装完操作系统后，windowsxp处在
一种试用的状态下，必须激活之后才能正常使用。激活的方式一共有两种：
1）网上激活
2）电话激活

对于不同版本的windowsxp中，激活的方式也不同：
零售版的序列号只能在一年内因为硬件的变化而产生的激活需求通过网上激活的方式激
活4次！
MSDN的序列号可以安装激活10台机器。
select版则无需激活。
而OEM版，有两种激活方式：
（1）System Locked Pre-installation，预装的XP已经依靠检查BIOS自动激活
（2）和RETAIL的激活方式一样。

不知什么原因，在所有语种的windowsxp中，只有俄文版和简体中文版没有select版，
而微软的解决方法就是根据客户的不同给予一定数量的序列号。所以说，无需激活的简
体中文版windows xp是不存在的，至少现在在微软的发售版本中是没有的。

四、我更换了硬件是否需要再次激活？
根据微软官方主页的说法： (

xp在安装的时候会记录下采集机器的以下10个硬件信息：
1 Display Adapter
2 SCSI Adapter
3 IDE Adapter
4 Network Adapter MAC Address
5 RAM Amount Range (i.e. 0-64mb, 64-128mb, etc)
6 Processor Type
7 Processor Serial Number
8 Hard Drive Device
9 Hard Drive Volume Serial Number
10 CD—ROM / CD-RW / DVD-ROM
如果用户更换硬件的话，会依据不同情况产生不同的结果。

其中网卡起了主要因素：

有网卡，且更换的不是网卡，那么除了网卡外剩下的9种硬件产品中，你可以随意的更
换其中6种，一种硬件的不管更换多少次，都算成一种硬件，也就是说从内存从
64M->128M->256M，算一次。
有网卡，且更换的是网卡，包括网卡在内可以升级或者更换4种。
没有网卡，只能更换4种！
此外，在安装后增加任何硬件均不会影响的激活的问题，比如增加一个硬盘。

对于因为更换硬件而产生的激活，微软同意在第一次激活起算一年内可以通过网上激活

MSDN的序列号可以安装激活10台机器。This is the CD I used. And it is not because of hardware change. It is totally a machine. And I will not install the new machines for the company. -mayer(难得糊涂); 2002-6-24 (#596617@0)
