Some stick with one or two fingers, or even a whole fist... "

"Well, stop worrying and start letting your baby indulge himself. There is no evidence that thumb sucking is in itself a sign of emotional neediness. Nor-if it ceases by age five-does it appear to do damage to the alignment of permanent teeth; any distortion of the mouth that does occur before that time returns to normal when the habit is ended. Since most children generally put the habit aside by age four to six, many experts say attempts to wean a child from the thumb don't need to begin before then."
